Enable object changes

Enable object changes for a business object to generate a change order object and update user-facing actions.

Overview

Object changes give administrators strict control over core objects, such as Contracts and Sales Orders. The system creates a dedicated object and controls how users change records.

Before you begin

IMPORTANT

  • Permissions: You must be a System Administrator or have the Custom Applications system permission.
  • License and objects: Confirm that your organization has an object change order license. The current release supports Contracts and Sales Orders.

Procedure

  1. Go to Setup > Object Management > Object Change Management.
  2. Find the source object.
  3. Turn on Enable Changes.

Expected result

1. Generate the change order object

The system creates an object that stores changes.

  • Name: Original object name + Change Order. For example, Sales Order becomes Sales Order Change Order.
  • API name: Original API name + ChangeObj. For example, SalesOrderChangeObj.

2. Assemble fields

The object includes all system and custom fields, the Business Type field, and fields such as Version Number, Changed By, Change Date, and Review Time.

3. Update actions

  • The Edit action on the source record is hidden.
  • A Change action lets users create a change order.
  • The system allows only one change order under approval for each source record.
