Page layout overview

Learn how object pages organize fields, buttons, and related data.

Business value

Page layouts determine how users view, enter, and process object data. A well-designed layout reduces data-entry effort and improves information retrieval. It also gives each role the business information that it needs.

Object fields define what data you can store. Page layouts define how users work with those fields. One object can use different layouts by Record Type, role, and device.

How it works

Page layouts usually take effect as follows:

The list supports Batch View, while each record can expose its Modification Record.

  1. Configure fields for the object.
  2. Add fields, groups, buttons, and related lists to the layout.
  3. Assign Layout by role or Record Type.
  4. The system selects a layout from the object, role, Record Type, and device.
  5. Field permissions, layout rules, and Business Status determine the final result.

NOTE

A page layout is not a field permission. Hiding a field in a layout only affects the page. Use field permissions to protect sensitive data from viewing, editing, and export.

Design recommendations

  • Prioritize status, owner, key dates, and core fields on details pages.
  • Arrange Form Page fields in the order that users complete them.
  • Keep list pages concise and prioritize fields that support decisions and actions.
  • Keep mobile summaries short.
  • For multiple Business Scenario values, assign layouts by Record Type.
  • Do not rely only on layout visibility for important fields. Review field permissions too.
